My Honest Opinion of Shangri La’s #WithAView Kerry Hotel Hong Kong

How many hotels have this 9.1 Superb rating on Booking.com, out of  2,005 reviews ? Not that many, really.

And Shangri La’s newer addition – Kerry Hotel Hong Kong – deserves it fully!

This is not a sponsored or comped post, just my honest opinion;  it’s aimed to hopefully help filter down on the myriad of online “recommendations” (honest or not quite..) and give you confidence to book a great stay in Hong Kong.

Why We Loved It

The Kerry Hotel Hong Kong Location:

Some reviews will tell you it’s not quite close to the MTR and public transport. I think those people really hate walking!

Coming from the airport, you just hop on the bus 23 towards Whampoa Garden Bus Terminus, which is 500 meters away from the hotel! that’s 5 minutes of walking – not too bad, if you ask me.

From the hotel, if you want to explore by foot (and why wouldn’t you) then jump straight onto the Hung Hom Promenade, and an easy 20 minutes walk will get you straight to the Tsim Sha Tsui East Waterfront and iconic spot for the Symphony of Lights.

Kerry Hotel is a new 5-star hotel part of the Shangri La group, located in Tsim Sha Sui and 2 steps away from the Promenade.

Everything about this hotel promises exceptional views: from the city-view and harbor-view rooms, to their superb infinity pool, the two restaurants, and even their 5-star gym, the entire hotel is what you call #withaview.

So the views are the obvious winner – and a solid reason to love Kerry hotel – especially if you’re like us and only have a long weekend in Hong Kong.  For some highlights :

The Infinity Pool

Sufficiently large, and, I’ll say it again: giving you superb views of the Harbor.

It’s long enough for pool laps, although not deep enough (1.20 m) for those who prefer to swim in Olympic pools – but personally, given my rookie swimming skills, it made me like it even more.

The Red Sugar Restaurant Bar

It offers both indoor and outdoor seating (again with those great harbor views!) and some solid Friday night vibes: good music (at a volume which also allows for a conversation – oh, I am getting old!) and comfy seating.

The snacks at the bar are really tasty! I wholeheartedly recommend the spicy chorizo and Cajun fries.

Red Sugar at the Kerry Hotel Hong Kong also does Champagne Sunday Brunches (or if you prefer – the Chocolate Afternoon Tea at the Lobby Cafe),  both of which I’ll really like to try next time!

The Rooms

Hong Kong hotel rooms are small. If you’re only staying a few nights, that’s not a big deal, Hong Kong is not the kind of place to want to spend a lot of time in your hotel. However, if you can, why not up the game and go for larger than average?

Their “basic” Deluxe Twin Room with City View is a whopping 42 m²!

The room comes with a complimentary mini bar stocked on arrival, and it has all the amenities you’d expect from a 5-star hotel.

Plus, you’ve got complimentary use of a smartphone you can use for internet and local calls during your stay. Coming from Europe (which means you have to pay 10€/MB for internet, and 1.10€/minute for a call) this is super useful, and a very nice touch.

(nt unusual for Hong Kong, quite a few other hotels offer this in their room rate)

The Gym

The views again! this time from the gym. It’s big, well endowed, super clean, and it has everything you need for a good workout.

Including the little things (but oh so basic!) such as towels and water at each machine.  You would think to take things like this for granted – but, as one of my friends recently experienced in an otherwise very high class 5 star hotel in Spain: they don’t.

Some Money Saving Tips

  • Save your money: book Deluxe City view instead of Harbor view – you won’t want to stay in the room anyway!
  • Don’t pay the 268 HK$ or 30€ for breakfast! There are plenty of options nearby, including inside the hotel – getting a light breakfast snack at the lobby cafe for only 85 HK$ (generous pastry, fruit and coffee). There’s also a Starbucks, just next to the hotel, if that’s your thing.
  • Make sure you count out the 10% service charge, which applies to everything – room rate, restaurant, etc.
